BMW Motorcycles - The History
The history of BMW Motorrad is a success story which began with the development of the flat twin "Boxer" engine some 100 years ago and has progressed through to today's state-of-the-art technological innovations.

BMW began as an aeroplane engine manufacturer. But after World War I, the Treaty of Versailles banned any German air force, so the company turned to motorcycle engine design and manufacturing. In 1923, BMW introduced the first motorcycle under its name, the R32. Since then, it has moved to become a successful manufacturer of refined motorcycles.

Three bikes, two awards and one great offer - Press Release 2006
The BMW K1200R, K1200S and R1200RT was within the reach of many riders during 2006 thanks to a summer offer by BMW on those motorbikes. Whether their dream motorcycle was a naked roadster, a fully-faired sports bike or one of the most highly-rated tourers ever produced, BMW Financial Services were prepared to pay part of the deposit until the end of September that year for any customer taking out a BMW Select or Hire purchase finance agreement with them.

For example, there was a £900 deposit contribution available for the 163 hp K1200 R - the most powerful naked production motorcycle in the world at the time!. Furthermore, the MCN Award-winning K1200 S (best Sports Tourer) and the boxer-engined MCN Award-winning R1200 RT (best Tourer) were both eligible for £500 deposit contributions.

All three motorcycles were available for demonstration throughout the BMW dealer network and the K1200 S and R1200 RT were also part of BMW Motorrad's Let the All Day Test Ride Decide campaign that allowed potential customers to experience the benefits of BMW ownership with an extended 'all day' test ride available throughout the summer months.
